书英文读后感篇1
the old man and the sea was written by an american writer named ernest hemingway. it has been translated into tens of languages, and the writer was so proud of his work.
santiago, the hero of the story, had gone eighty-four days without taking a fish back. at first, a boy named manolion had been with him, but santiago couldn’t catch even one fish. the boy had gone at his parents’ orders in a lucky boat which caught three good fish the first week, and the couple thought that it was definitely and finally bad to let their boy stay with the old fisherman. on santiago’s eighty-fifth day of fishing, he went out alone, leaving the smell of the land behind and rowing out into the clean early morning smell of ocean. to his surprise, he caught a tuna which he had never seen before and it was hard to believe that the tuna was bigger than his boat. later, the blood from the tuna left a trail for all sharks as wide as a highway, so fighting against sharks was unavoidable. the result was that sharks ate up all the meat of the tuna and santiago only brought the tuna skeleton back. he was so tired that he slept deeply as soon as he got home, dreaming of lions.
in this story, santiago was an old and poor widow though he was good at fishing and had so much valuable experience. he only lived on fishing all his life. at long last, he just brought the skeleton back, you may think such a fisherman should be a loser, but this result didn’t mean failing. on the contrary, hemingway used the skeleton which was the pillar of spirit to strengthen the meaning of the old man’s life. santiago was described as a perfect person who never gave up.
the boy named manolion appeared in the beginning and at the end. even during santiago’s voyage, he always came to the poor old man’s mind. he was the only person who cared santiago sincerely, trust santiago absolutely, and the young boy wanted to be an inheritor of santiago’s career. hemingway not only told us the experience of fishing should be spread from generation to generation, but also expected us to admire, to learn from and to carry on the spirit of santiago. the appearance of manilion was not by chance, which was arranged by hemingway. during santiago’s long voyage, how much he wished the boy could have been with him to drive his loneliness away. youth is the symbol of energy and hope. even an old man can be young inside. lions appeared several times in santiago’s dreams for they were living in his heart, which showed the spirit of santiago would never be low.
the coming of the sharks could not be avoided. they can be thought as attack which can swallow your success and happiness. the story tells me to face the problems happened in my life with a heart as wide as ocean. though the old man was lonely, he was a traveler who walked on the road of realizing his ideals. but he was not alone at the moment, for his will was so firm. the old man and the sea has won the nobel prize at last, which is a comfort to the writer.
书英文读后感篇2
went to the bookstore during the holiday, i chose a book from a lot of world masterpieces, named great expectation, when i pick up this book, i have not expected that such an english book will have a so great impact on me, making my thoughts and feelings very deep, i think that the form and content of this book are all very outstanding.
it is written by charles dickens,a famous writter from england, and it is not i will turn to the topic on how it can attract me.
the character in this masterpiece left me the deep impression is pip.he falls in love with estella.he studied as hard as he could.educating himself for her.why did he love estella so much? just for her beautiful face? because she is pretty? she is rich? she is proud? in fact, i think pip pay out so much for the love.she didnt treat him well and even that she didnt respect him at all! she put the food for him as a dog,but he didnt hate her. on the contrary, he left from his home and his friends. he just want to be a gentleman.he abandoned a lot than he got. i cant understand why he do it in this way. i think its not worth at all. if one person dont like you or not respect you,you neednt do everything for her. so it made me quite sad.i feel sorry for pip. he had a very difficult life.。.
miss havisham is aslo a character who left me a deep impression.she was a pitiful lady.her mother died young.her farther was very rich and very proud.with only one child, miss havisham,by his first wife.in fact, she should have a nice life, but her wedding was destroied by her fiance.he broke her heart and she was angry.she want to retaliate all men.she was really a abject woman.but she chose a wrong way to continue her life.。she wanted to hurt other persons.and she had done.this is no good for made her feel a little comfortable.and there was more victims in the world.there are so many persons in the world.when they were hurt they want to hurt other innocent persons.athough this is no good for them, but they did so.i do not know why they did made the world full of hateness.it is difficult to understand.
thats my thought.
书英文读后感篇3
"great expectations" has been considered to be one of charles dickens’ most mature and relatively late works. having experienced a wealth of human life, dickens got a profound understanding of human-being, the surrounding environment and his life experiences while all his mature thinking and understanding were summarized into the book "great expectations"。 the original meaning of the work’s title in fact is a heritage, but when it was translated into chinese it gave me an impression that the title shows the hero of the story had great expectations. however, reading over the book i realized that this "great expectations" takes an ironic band——it should be said that the theme of this work not only told the story of orphan pip who wanted to be the ideal first-class disillusionment. if one does think so, he holds a wrong understanding of the great significance why dickens creative the work. the hero pip lived with his sister’s family. though their life was hard, pip didn’t wish to be a first-class person his vision was to be a blacksmith like his brother-in-law, his sister’s husband. the reason why he changed his mind and was eager to be a first-class person later was the changing of environment——he met miss harvisham, estella and some other complex people. as we know one of dickenss philosophy thoughts is environment takes a deep impact to humans’ ideological and the story expresses his view that different environment creates different people. in short, i think the work was not arbitrarily written, but was based on the 10 works before aggregating dickens’ thoughts. what is more, dickens had put his outlook on life, his views of philosophy and ethics into the great creation.
the story is pided into three phases of pips life expectations. the first "expectation" is allotted 19 chapters, and the other two 20 chapters each in the 59-chapter work. in some editions, the chapter numbering reverts to chapter one in each expectation, but the original publication and most modern editions number the chapters consecutively from one to 59. at the end of chapters 19 and 39, readers are formally notified that they have reached the conclusion of a phase of pips expectations.
in the first expectation, pip lives a humble existence with his ill-tempered older sister and her strong but gentle husband, joe gargery. pip is satisfied with this life and his warm friends until he is hired by miss havisham and estella.from that time on, pip aspires to leave behind his simple life and be a gentleman. this life is suddenly turned upside down when he is visited by a london attorney, mr. jaggers.
the second stage of pips expectations has pip in london, learning the details of being a gentlemen, having tutors, fine clothing, and joining cultured society. at the end of this stage, pip is introduced to his benefactor, again changing his world.
“great expectations” is one of dicken’s most maturest works. after dicken had experienced large part of meaningful life, he had a deeper cognition for people, environment, as well as the life which he had gone through. and all the mature cognitions are included in this writing---great expectations.
pip was brought up by his sister who was unpleasant as well as crude and her friendly blacksmith husband—joe. joe himself had arranged a common hard but satisfied path for pip to go through, and on the other hand, pip beheld this as his highest goal to achieve.
but the two things which he had experienced later had changed his pursue and his fate as well. met abel magwith(an escaped convict) in the swamp, and unwillingly helped him out of danger by stealing food from his own home. if say that had changed his attitude for material life, then, his introduction to miss havisham, an aging woman who had been jilted at the alter and estella who had been brought up by havisham only to revenge for her own pain had brought vast shock for his world of spirit.
aspiring to be a gentleman despite his humble born, pip fortunately or unfortunately received a fund of wealth from an unknown source and being sent to london with a lawyer. from then on, he became a gentleman without question at the price of losing everything.
the title of this book is ‘great expectations” which make an impression on us that the character would have great expectations just as the title goes. but in fact this title has a tone of sarcastic on the other way around.
this story full of quirkiness from the very beginning to the end, the relations among characters are anfractuous as well which actually attracted me a lot.
one of the paragraphs, which i appreciate most implicatively as well as beautifully expresses the feeling between pip and estella.
“we are friends,” said i, rising and bending over her, as she rose from the bench.
‘and will continue friends apart.” said estella.
i took his hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and, as the morning mists had risen long ago when i first let the forge, so, the evening mists were rising now, and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, i saw no shadow of another parting from her.
at the view of language, this works had achieved a step o f highest, dicken had made this writing plain and fluent as well, which surely can attract lots of readers and high comments.
to be frank, i really impressed by this art of beauty. so i like dicken’s works very much.猜你喜欢:
书英文读后感篇4
in order to enrich my summer vacation, which the extracurricular reading, my mother bought me a book titled the le petit prince. i was wondering, what is the prince to man? i can't wait to get books and read it.
see the introduction section, i just know, this book in the east and west are very famous, adults and children are like books. no wonder the teacher told us to buy the book. this book is about the little one lives in only one room, the planet for his roses watering everyday. later, he left the planet, travel, saw many strange people, in order to develop their horizons, and he came to the desert, he met an airplane pilots of broken. prince offered to help him, and he forged a deep friendship, in the book describes the prince since leaving, he missed his star rose to leave earth, he tried every way, even a little snake bites, and since then pilot never saw his wonderful description, etc.
reading this book, i finally understood the purity of heart. like the prince deeply in love with him, in order not to let the rose flower, he was still please sheep eats sheep pilot drew a mask, for him, as he rose, if not just like all planets are lost. this is how sincere feelings! still say that fox, even little left, it will forever remember him.
this story has many implication, tell us, not deceive, also don't puffed up, also do not have meaning in the waste of time and money, we should maintain the balance of baby mindset to finally, earnestly do every thing. ...
i like the book, read a book, i learned that many human reason, also increased my knowledge, and maybe i know the original adults will have many do wrong. the grown-ups do every thing, all is not correct, and so we see things should go to watch it, just like the teacher to our request, and we hope that the child in the growth process, always keep a pure heart, to treat every thing, to find something we really must find in study, therefore, we should also with the same attitude to study hard, pursuing ideal goal.
书英文读后感篇5
maugham explores the contradiction and interaction between life and art in his novels. the escapist themes revealed in the novel, which coincided with the aspirations of many in the west, became popular fiction in the 20th century.
"maugham's gauguin-inspired novel the moon and sixpence is undoubtedly more fiction than fact." "over the next decade gauguin thought he would finally be able to enjoy the fruits of his success and bring the family together." high contrast fiction and reality can be found, more the pursuit of painting has its causal relationship and the process of development, and the departure of strickland is very abrupt and too intense, combined with the author use the fictional plot and narrative skills, has shaped an unkind world and out-of-touch so-called pure sense of the artist. compared with gauguin's departure, the protagonist strickland's departure does not conform to the logic of reality at all, and is even more incomprehensible to readers. there is a deeper reason for maugham's writing. that is, the virtual satisfaction of maugham's self-desire.
the sixpence was the smallest unit of money in england at the time. a friend had joked to maugham that when looking at the moon people often forgot their sixpence under their feet. maugham thought this was funny and got the title, even in a joking way. the moon represents lofty ideals, and the sixpence represents reality.
书英文读后感篇6
"it's like a flower. if you fall in love with a flower growing on a star, then at night you feel sweet and happy when you look at the sky, and all the stars are like flowers."
the first time i read the little prince, in high school, was immediately attracted by his fresh writing style and the simple world. six years later, at the moment, read the "little prince", can not help but again and again to tears, and palpitation for prince's mind be sad, moved by his pure and persistent love, for his innocence and mourning gradually to disappear. as the author of st. erik marcus paley said in the preface, he put the fairy tale "to leon? wirth, when he was a boy"
i didn't know this book was very famous in the west. it was a book that my adult and children liked to read. no wonder my mother would give it to me. i read it later. the little prince lived on a planet that was very small, and watered every day his roses. then the little prince traveled away from the planet and saw a lot of strange monsters on the planet until he came to earth and saw a pilot who had broken a plane in the desert. the little prince had a deep friendship with the pilot, but he missed his roses very much. in order to leave the earth, the little prince was bitten by a venomous snake, and then the pilot never saw him again.
at the beginning of the book, the irony of the unimaginative people, "these adults never actively understand anything; and for our children, always explain to them again and again......" "so i wouldn't talk to him about pythons, primeval forests, or stars. i only talk about things they can understand, such as bridge, golf, politics, ties, etc.. in this way, this person will be very happy, one met a reasonable and considerate person." and the children said to adults, "i saw a beautiful house, which was made of rose bricks, a window with a geranium, and a pigeon on the roof."." they have to be able to imagine what the house looks like, and you have to say, "i saw a house worth twenty thousand dollars."." they have to say, "that house is sure to be beautiful." saint exupery is perhaps in adults alone, then through the little prince's eyes to find adults much ado about nothing, to share the wealth, money and power in order to forget the knowledge of the true value of his life
really need to lose their most valuable innocence and innocence, lost their imagination and beauty.
from the little prince's words, we can see that everything has its surface and authenticity. in many cases, we only see the superficial things, but ignore the inherent benefits. the little prince remembered the fox's words: "only the mind can see the essence of things; what is really important is invisible to the naked eye."". so he said, "just because there is a flower that we can't see, the stars look so beautiful."." "the desert is beautiful, because somewhere in the desert there is a well hidden."." ah, the little prince's heart is very rich. a lot of things are mysterious because we can't see them with our naked eyes. in fact, these are so simple, just need a heart full of love.
